Founder of the company - the Italian Enzo Ferrari - was born in 1898. His first job was the «CMN» company, where he began to work in 1919. Soon he moved to FIAT as test driver. Since 1929 Enzo owned his own company in Modena, which is under contract provided Alfa Romeo with sports events. Company «Auto Avio Costruzioni» was founded in 1939. Although the company manufactured race cars it could not participate in sports under the name of Ferrari, as they had contractual obligations with Alfa Romeo.
The first car, which bears the name of Ferrari, appeared in 1947. As a trademark of Enzo Ferrari chose galloping stallion on a yellow background. Enzo Ferrari managed to persuade Gioacchio Colombo to allow Alfa Romeo to join him in the development of the successful 12 - cylinder power units of his own design. Today, racing and sports cars with the brand of Ferrari occupy an elite position in the world thanks to such famous drivers as Luigi Kinetti, John Surtees, Mario Andretti, etc.
Models, ranging from 166 to 250, 340 to Superamerica, 512 BB and Mondial 8 became Immortal classics. In 1969 the company Societa Esercizio Fabbriche Automobili e Corso Ferrari merged with the FIAT concern.
Today Ferrari produces powerful, fast and expensive sports cars, which are available only to wealthy motorists.
