Cadillac C-Ville

This brand was founded by Chrysler Corporation in 1928. At the start Plymouth was supposed to become Chrysler’s entry into a low-priced field of non-expensive Chrysler models equipped with 4-cylinder power packs. By the time the USA entered the World War II, there had been 4 Plymouth models produced. As well as many other companies, Plymouth had to manufacture equipment for military needs and they started producing the civil vehicles in 1945 only. The commercial success that had accompanied the Plymouth cars for 20 years was slowly extinguishing and in the early 50-s the company was taking only the 5th place at car sales.

Everything changed in 1955 when Virgil Exner changed the exterior of all the models manufactured by the company. Despite the improving sales statistics, the company didn’t manage to climb higher than the 4th place among all the automobile corporations in the USA. 1962 was the worst year for the Plymouth. Although they had forecasted great demand on compact cars, the market was in fact again large-car oriented. The sales crashed down. Fortunately, due to the popularity of Valiant compact model the company won back the 4th place again.

In 1990-s Plymouth launched some of the new models into production. These were Colt GT Fastback, front drive Acclaim LX and Laser Sports Coupe. Laser was designed in cooperation with Mitsubishi. Since the late 1990-s Plymouth cars which used to be the cheapest and the most mass produced cars of the Chrysler Corporation, began to lose their customers.

Since the end of the 2001 model year the latest Plymouth models – Voyager MPV, Prowler roadster and compact Neon Sedan have been produced under Chrysler brand.
