The Swedish company, which manufactures cars and trucks, as well as power units for different purposes. Like many other car manufacturing companies, Volvo is engaged in diverse agricultural, forestry and household appliances.
The first Volvo was called Jakob and was created by the founders - Assar Gabrielsson and Gustav Larson. The car plant to manufacture Volvo cars was founded in 1927. The company name comes from the Latin verb "to roll, rotate" the first person singular - "I roll". Volvo has produced a reliable car, but the war has not allowed the Swedes to enter the European market. But after the war, through a series of powerful advertising campaigns, the firm became widely known not only in Europe but in America as well. And, of course, Volvo in Sweden itself remained the best-selling brand. Model of Volvo PV44 was leading in Sweden for sales until 1953, and the subsequent best selling models - PV 444 and PV 544 were designed based on it.
Volvo has always paid great attention to passenger safety. The company is setting common standards for car safety for over half a century by now. Three-point safety-belts fixing, dual-circuit brake system with a connection using triangular scheme, a special beam of the roof that protects a car body from crash as a result of a turn turtle of a car. Many innovations introduced by Volvo have become generally accepted standards of the automotive industry.
Since 1999, the Volvo Passenger Cars Department is a part of the Ford Motor Company Group.
